The technology companies announced the DTP which means Data Transfer Project today, July 20 . Wondering what this Data Transfer Policy is all about?  Well, the DTP is an open-source idea initiated to create new tools that help people move their information across different web platform easily.

According to Engadget , Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Twitter have published a White paper that extensively explains their vision and plans for a flexible " data portability ecosystem ".
The group says the DTP will use series of data that transforms property APIs into data packets that are easy to understand. These adapters will come in both import and export forms as well as authentication adapters that will be used for verifying and protecting users information.
Although the DTP is in development stage and not fully available to the public, the group says it created the initiative because it wanted to an open dialogue with users and developers.

One of the reasons for this whole idea is to make users easily and flexibly use the services of their choice, as well as the data on each services.  A user may decide to quit Instagram and do all their social media activities on another platform . The idea is to make it easier and flexible for users to switch services and by this promoting choice and competition on the internet.
